Start at the Neckline: Choosing an Elie The Label Evening Dress

The fitting-room edit · Elie The Label

Start at the neckline. A sculpted strapless edge, a square frame and a deep V create three different moods before a single accessory is added. Here is how to choose between them with confidence.

It is easy to fall for the colour of an evening dress before considering how its upper half feels to wear. Yet the neckline is where many practical decisions begin: how much coverage you want, which undergarments work, whether your favourite earrings have room to move, and how comfortable you feel sitting across a dinner table.

These three dresses are currently listed in Onlinemarkat’s Elie The Label collection. Rather than prescribing one neckline for a particular body shape, this edit looks at the design itself and the questions worth asking before ordering. Our styling suggestions are possibilities, not rules.

The sculpted strapless neckline: E189

Elie The Label E189 pairs folded, finely pleated panels at the bust with a fitted corset-style bodice and an A-line skirt. In the blue product imagery, those raised folds are the defining feature: they give the top of the dress its own architectural shape.

We would begin by leaving the neck clear and trying one pair of small, luminous earrings. This keeps the folds visible without making the outfit feel unfinished. A smooth evening bag offers a quiet counterpoint to the pleated detail; there is no need to repeat every texture in the accessories.

For a strapless design, measurements deserve particular attention. Compare your bust, waist and hips with the designer’s size guide rather than relying only on a usual dress size. Ask about the bodice’s construction and suitable support if those details are important to you. A corset-style appearance alone does not establish how the dress will support every wearer.

The square neckline with flowing panels: E188

Elie The Label E188 frames the upper body with a square neckline, fine pleating and long cape panels. The purple photographs show a defined waist and pleated detail at the hips, followed by a flowing floor-length skirt.

This is a useful option to consider when you like a clearly framed neckline but want movement around the shoulders. Do not confuse cape panels with complete coverage: inspect the front and back photographs, including the crossed straps and open-back detail described on the product page. What looks covered from one angle can feel different from another.

For styling, try hair tucked behind the shoulders and earrings that stay clear of the panels. Before the event, test how the complete outfit behaves when you sit, reach for your bag and turn. If you plan to add a wrap, check that it works with the existing cape rather than tangling with it.

The most useful fitting question is not “Is this the right neckline for my shape?” but “Do I feel comfortable moving through my evening in it?”

The deep V with a sculptural hip detail: E191

Elie The Label E191 takes a sharper direction. Its deep V neckline has lapel-inspired edges; a slim belt defines the waist, and an oversized bow-like detail adds volume at the hip. The plum product photographs show a fitted skirt with a sweeping finish.

Our first styling choice would be compact earrings and a small bag with clean lines. The neckline and hip already provide two strong points of interest. If you prefer a necklace, try it with the actual dress and check where it rests when you move; a piece that interrupts the lapel-like edge may distract from the feature you chose the dress for.

Decide how comfortable you are with the neckline’s depth before ordering. Ask the team about the specific design if you need more coverage or have an alteration request. Do not assume the neckline can be raised, a panel added or the original construction changed without the designer’s confirmation.

Four checks before the final choice

  • Look beyond the front: review the back, sides and close-ups, especially when coverage is a priority.
  • Check fit with measurements: use the size guide for the specific designer. A size label alone is not a fit guarantee.
  • Plan the complete outfit: try shoes, underwear, jewellery and your bag together. Check sitting comfort as well as the standing silhouette.
  • Confirm the practical details: check the selected size’s availability, preparation information and current price on the product page before ordering.

For a wedding reception, a formal dinner or an evening celebration, choose the neckline that suits the atmosphere and the way you want to feel. E189 brings sculpted folds, E188 adds pleating and cape movement, and E191 introduces a sharply drawn V. Each offers a different starting point for an outfit that still feels like you.
